You know, I used to be just like you, waiting for that perfect moment to come. Whether it was a new project, a career move, or even something as simple as starting a workout routine, I’d always tell myself, “I’ll start when I’m ready.
When things are a little less chaotic. When I have more time.” 🙁
But here’s the thing: that perfect moment never came.
I kept telling myself these little lies, convincing myself that someday, all the stars would align, and I’d feel 100% ready. I’d finally have enough time, energy, confidence—you name it. But as the weeks, months, and even years went by, I realized I was just waiting. And waiting gets you nowhere.
To be honest, I wasn’t even ready when I created this Newsletter, ”Refuse to settle for average”
I’m not sure if you’ve felt this way too, but if you’re anything like me, maybe you’ve been sitting on an idea or a goal, thinking, “When the time’s right, I’ll go for it.” But can I let you in on a secret?
Seriously. Life will be messy sometimes, and there will always be something standing in the way whether it’s your schedule, your confidence, or the fear of messing up. And trust me, I get it. Taking that first step can be terrifying, especially when everything feels uncertain.
But let me tell you what helped me.
One day, I just decided, “Enough is enough. I’m going to start now, messy, imperfect, and scared.” And guess what? That first step? It was far from perfect. In fact, I stumbled. I doubted myself. But I learned more in those first few messy steps than I ever could’ve learned by waiting.
It wasn’t about starting with the perfect plan or the perfect conditions. It was about starting period.
𝐌𝐲 𝐈𝐜𝐞-𝐒𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭:
Let me share a more vulnerable thing that happened today, earlier today i went for my ice skating lesson, my instructor kept saying to me wow, Sophia you have greatly improved.
I used to be so scared that i would walk like a duck on ice skates for several classes!
I remember thinking, “What if this fails? What if I make a fool of myself?” I am literarily learning how to skate among kids and teenagers! lol
But then I realized, that even if I failed, failing is part of the process.
Falling is part of the process
I’d be further along than I was yesterday. Waiting was only keeping me stuck. And once I made that first move, something incredible happened—I built momentum. One step turned into two, then three, and suddenly, I was moving. I wasn’t stuck in that endless cycle of “someday” anymore.
And honestly? There’s something so powerful about just starting. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t need to wait until you’re completely ready. Because that day might never come.
So, if you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to make a move whether it’s starting that side hustle you’ve been dreaming about, applying for that new job, or even something as personal as getting in shape—let me tell you: the perfect time is now.
You don’t need everything to be in place. You just need to take the first step. Even if it’s small, even if it’s imperfect. Because starting, no matter how messy it feels, is what brings clarity. It’s what gets you moving, and that momentum is everything.
I’m not saying it’ll be easy. You’ll probably stumble. You’ll definitely have doubts. But every step forward, even the messy ones, is a step toward progress. And that’s what matters.
Here’s what I want you to do, think of that thing you’ve been putting off. That goal that’s been sitting in the back of your mind. I want you to take one small step toward it today. It doesn’t have to be big or life-changing, just something to get the ball rolling.
Maybe it’s sending an email, signing up for that class, or spending just 10 minutes sketching out an idea. Whatever it is, do it today. Not tomorrow, not next week—today. Because once you start, you’ll see that the perfect moment isn’t something you wait for, it’s something you create.
So, go ahead. Take that first step. I promise you, it’s worth it.
And remember—you don’t have to be perfect, you just have to start.
I try to keep my posts short and a quick read so i’d stop here.
